Colorado GOP Congressmen want permanent extensions of tax cuts; Dems don’t
The newly enlarged Republican delegation to the 112th Congress wants the Bush tax cuts extended permanently while the Democrats who were available to comment don't, reports Peter Marcus. Republicans Mike Coffman, Cory Gardner and Scott Tipton want permanent cuts, but Coffman says he'll take a temporary extension if that's all he can get. That's smart. Republicans want to extend the tax cuts for all taxpayers so they won't be forced to seek tax cuts just for the super wealthy down the road. That would be political suicide. Democrats Sen. Michael Bennet and Rep. Ed Perlmutter (CO-7) clearly are for higher taxes and are hoping to delay any decisions until after the 2012 elections when they hope to retake power in Congress.
