Dan Maes, Tom Lucero attend a Loveland couple’s coffee
The late President John F. Kennedy and his family made candidate coffees famous in the post War 1940s when they used them to introduce JFK to Bostonians and get him elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.
You don’t hear much about coffees because the press normally is not invited. But Nancy and Robert Rumfelt not only invited Republicans Dan Maes and Tom Lucero to their Loveland home neighborhood event center Sunday, they also included a reporter, John Pilsner of the Loveland Reporter-Herald. Note that the crowd of some 40 was larger than the candidates usually find at organized, public rallies, and the press coverage leveraged the event many times. Please see Mrs. Rumfelt’s update in comments.
PLease note that Robert and I did not invite into our home - we held the event at the clubhouse located in our subdivision. The event was open to the public and we submitted a calendar item to the paper as well as handing out flyers to our neighborhood and surrounding neighborhoods.
We wanted people to see that events for candidates don’t have to be fancy and only those with money can do. We wanted people to know that anyone can host a event for a candidate - get people involved in the process again.
