Democrats drop public option, Medicare expansion; keep spending, tax increases in HR 3590
President Obama and Congressional Democrats don’t care what will be in their health spend and tax bill (HR 3590).
All they care about is winning. They want to pass a bill that will give them more power over Americans even if it reduces the quality of care and increases health insurance premiums.
To pass their health bill at any price, they’ve agreed to drop the public option (government HMO, Fannie Med) and to drop their plan to expand access to Medicare to the 55- to 64-year-olds who aren’t insured by employers.
While it’s good to see the public option and Medicare expansion scheme go. Hopefully, more of the dumber provisions in the bill will be dropped too, but don’t count on it.
Other changes in the bill are likely, because some Democrats up for re-election in states that are more conservative than Colorado is are balking at voting for a bill that would increase health care expenditures for the Federal government.
The Democrats still want a bill passed by the Senate before Christmas, and it will be interesting to see how they try to get that done.
