GOP candidates are averting appearances with ethically-challenged Dan Maes

When the chairman of the Republican National Committee comes to town in a bright red "Fire Pelosi" bus, you'd think every GOP candidate and leader in the state would turn out. Only Dan Maes and a few underfunded candidates did. With most Republicans supporting Tom Tancredo or not committing to Maes or Tancredo, the state's Republican chairman, Dick Wadhams, U.S. Senate candidate and any GOP Congressional candidates who think they have a chance of winning in November stayed away from the "Fire Pelosi" event, which was held in the party's Greenwood Village headquarters "Victory" call center. Nobody wants to be associated with Dan Maes even if it means disrespecting the national chairman, Michael Steele. Indeed, Steele himself is controversial and seems to be working as hard to keep his job next January as to help elect Republicans. About 150 GOP activists showed up to hear Steele in Greenwood Village and another 100 reportedly attended his event in Fort Collins where Maes' presence also kept many GOP and candidates leaders away.
