John Hickenlooper 47%, Tom Tancredo 44%, Dan Maes 5%; Ken Buck, Michael Bennet tied at 47%

John Hickenlooper is leading Tom Tancredo in the latest Public Policy Polling survey of likely voters 47% to 44% with Dan Maes sinking to 5%. Tancredo is getting 73% of Republicans' votes and leads Hickenlooper with independents 46% to 44%.

"Hickenlooper’s the most popular candidate for Governor, with a 51/41 approval rating. But his support has been stuck in the 47-48% range since before the primary. When Tancredo and Maes were splitting the vote relatively evenly it looked like that would be enough but as Maes’ support continues to dwindle to closer to zero Hickenlooper all the sudden looks extremely vulnerable," PPP said in a statement.

In a Magellan Data Mapping Strategies poll published last week, Hickenlooper leads Tancredo 44% to 43% to 9% for Dan Maes.

In Colorado's U.S. Senate race, Republican Ken Buck and Obama Democrat Michael Bennet are tied at 47% each, according to PPP. This is what SurveyUSA found in the Denver Post/ 9News poll.

Buck is winning independents 46% to 44% and is getting 84% of Republicans while Bennet is getting 92% of Democrats. There are more Republicans in the likely voter pool this year, PPP noted.

"A worrisome sign for Bennet within the numbers is that 7% of Republicans are undecided while only 2% of Democrats are," PPP said, adding, "That could be an indication that Buck has more room to grow his support over the final week of the campaign."

  1. Darling Don,

I just acknowledged the error of my ways and the accuracy of yours in a blog post on the PPP poll.  I can’t remember when I’ve been so happy to be so wrong about something as your months old prediction of Maes only garnering 5%.  http://wp.me/pzqev-sy

I am very excited and I hope my blogging colleagues who were also accusing you of going off the deep end will share in my admirable graciousness.

  2. Laura, LOL. Thank you. Let’s hope Maes gets 2%.
