Scott McInnis names Nancy Hopper as his new campaign manager
Republican gubernatorial candidate Scott McInnis three weeks ago quietly replaced his campaign manager, George Culpepper, Jr., with a veteran Colorado campaign manager Nancy Hopper.
Culpepper has gone back to his political consulting firm, Hopper said in a brief interview this morning after the Arapahoe County Republican Men’s Club breakfast. She managed McInnis’ first Congressional campaign. She said that she has managed some 20 campaigns, including two for her mother, Sally Hopper, who served in the Colorado State Senate for 12 years. Hopper owns two businesses in Denver, Set the Stage, and Accessories Plus.
Hopper said McInnis has had about a dozen meetings with Tea Party groups, including meetings in individual coffees.
At this point, she said, McInnis has a field office in Grand Junction and will be adding more.
Don,
You need to please follow up with Hopper. McInnis has not met with a dozen Tea Party groups…Call Hopper on this. Get dates and group…He is full of it. He has been dodging 912 and TEA Party groups since he got ripped by them when it was announced on Fox that he was the “Tea Party Candidate.”
I don’t buy this for a second!

You, of all people, probably have a better handle on this than about anyone. Note that Nancy told me that some of the meetings were private coffees, not public meetings.Maybe someone from the campaign will reply and elaborate here. Or maybe some people who met with McInnis will chime in if they happen to read this post.
Why don’t you ask on your FB account? You’ve got that readership nailed, I suspect.

Their campaign representatives have been unresponsive. When we do get a reply, it is a denial without reason, no matter how much we offer to accommodate.
Scott has showed up at one public 912/TEA meet + greet near his home, and one in castle rock, I believe.
Scott even slammed Leslie Hollywood on KCOL radio back in December when she kindly extended him an open invitation to the 912/TEA Party Candidate Search 2010 forums.
Invites are constantly being sent out. I do think he did respond and will be attending a 912 event in Lafayette and he also has a small meeting for 32 set up at Arapahoe Library…It seems he may slowly be crawling out of his hiding spot.
My readers are aware of this challenge. It seems he doesn’t want our support or votes. Statements made indicate that he is only running against Hickenlooper and he has no regard to campaign Maes in any capacity.
Smart move if you ask me…Maes would blow him out of the water any time, any day, any venue.

Here’s summary of replies: Since his 12/2/09 appearance on national Fox News, he met with 1 grassroots group in El Paso County, he met with Western Slope Conservative Alliance Board only (not membership), President of WSCA & I met with him on 12/11/09 & he taped interview conducted by leader of Northern CO Tea Party yesterday. He is scheduled for 2 events with grassroots org’s members in Feb & 1 in Mar. Also, 1 leader reported she has gone to 4 events over past several months expecting McInnis to speak & he sent rep instead. He did not meet with any of the 31 groups prior to his appearance on Fox News. Lu Busse, Chair of The 9.12 Project Colorado Coalition & Leadership Team
Posted by Lu Busse on 01/28/2010 at 08:19 PMThanks for the feedback and updates. Nancy Hopper called to correct my report in this story, and I’ve published a correction. She says she didn’t say he’d met with 12 groups but said he was going to meet with a dozen folks in Fort Collins. I apparently didn’t hear her correctly, because this story shows what is in my notes. I’ll be watching for updates on FaceBook.

You should inform Nancy that the candidate himself needs corrected. Thursday night at the El Paso Co GOP office, Scott spoke and addressed this question. He indicated he had just met with 12 individuals in NoCo TEA Party, used his schedule as a shield to excuse himself from only attending 3 912/TEA events to date (if you include the NoCo event which was actually only a video interview and the people in attendance were there to assist with the video production.)
Then Scott turned my simple question into an attack and acused me of lying. Clearly, I am not the liar here. I’m sure this wasnt the first time such facts got “skewed” and I am personally going to ensure watchdogs such as myself are at his events to screen, observe, and report on further happenings.

I stand corrected. Apparantly there was a small meeting of leadership in NoCo to try to work out things with McInnis…doesn’t seem to be working out so well according to all the internet chatter. Maybe if Scott actually papered some actual policy, grassroots would consider him more seriously.
I thought his meeting was for his video intereview that all the other Senate/Gov candidates are doing or scheduled to do…not sure why that hasn’t happened yet. Funny, Dan Maes did that over a month ago.
I still take issue. Dan Maes’ scheduled is booked solid, yet he makes time to meet and greet with all grassroots groups, GOP and Political Clubs, and others. If he can do it on his budget, you would think Scott could surely do the same.
At least Dan shows up to his events, and not representatives thereof.
