Senate amendment shows how Congress would drive up health insurance premiums with mandates
The Senate just apparoved 61-39 Sen. Barbara Mikulski’s (D-MD) amendment that would require insurers to provide free mammograms and other preventive health services to women. Those services wouldn’t be “free,” of course. They would be paid for by everyone who bought health insurance under ObamaCare (S 1796), which is being debated in the Senate.
This vote is example number one of how Congress would impose expensive new coverage mandates on insurers and insurance buyers, including those enrolled in a government-run health plan. It shows why the CBO’s cost estimates for ObamaCare are so unbelievable. The CBO can’t and hasn’t tried to forecast what new mandates Mikulski and the 534 other members of Congress would try to foist on insurance buyers in years to come. In Colorado, such mandates make health insurance premiums 50% more expensive than they would be without the mandates. Links:
