Tom Wiens loans his campaign $540,000, raises $188,418 in two months

Former state representative Tom Wiens has disclosed that of the $728,418 he raised for his campaign for the U.S. Senate in the fourth quarter, he loaned the campaign $540,000 and raised $188,418, reports fellow Rocky Mountain Alliance blogger Ben DeGrow.

While his fundraising by far bested Ken Buck’s $40,000 in fourth quarter contributions, it fell far short of the more than $500,000 Jane Norton raised in the first three weeks of the campaign and the $1.15 million that Democrat appointed Senator Michael Bennet raised in the fourth quarter. Democrat Andrew Romanoff, who is challenging Bennet, raised $337,000 in the quarter.

Whether Wiens will spend the money he has lent his campaign remains to be seen. Because of his late entry into the contest and his relatively weak fourth quarter fundraising results, Wiens looks pretty weak compared with Jane Norton who raised some $550,000 in the quarter and has raised about $1 million since she entered the race.
