Conservatives trying to match hard left’s efforts to use bloggers, social networking to gain power
Conservatives in Washington and around the country are trying to match the hard left’s campaigns to capture the minds of America’s voters with the help of bloggers and other activists who use Twitter, FaceBook, e-mail and other new media to spread their talking points, reports Jerry Markon. The left has used similar tactics since Howard Dean burst on the sceneduring the 2004 presidential primaries. Conservatives believe that the left’s use of social networking technology helped President Barack Obama attract some 13 million activists and contributors to his campaign.
The Washington Post story makes it look like
conservative bloggers are taking their talking points from long-time conservative think tanks like the Heritage Foundation and similar groups.
It’s obvious that a lot empty headed bloggers on both sides use talking points generated by ideologues who lack communication skills and often don’t know what they’re talking about.
That they don’t know what they’re talking about is obvious when you look at the Heritage Foundation’s web sites’ articles about health insurance reform. They really don’t get it, and they seem to be defending insurers. The left-leaning Brookings is no better.
Real bloggers write their own talking points. They smell rats when they see them, and they decide for themselves what will work and what won’t. They don’t need nor use other people’s talking points.
Indeed, we write talking points for others to use.
