Tom Tancredo victory wouldn’t hurt GOP or American Constitution Party
Democrats are doing all they can to scare Republicans into voting for the ethically-challenged Dan Maes instead of helping elect former U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo governor of Colorado. And the Denver Post political writers are doing all they can to help the Democrats by writing misleading stories about the situtation and quoting warnings by a Democrat political consultant, Fred Ciruli. Even if the reporters are trying to be objective and fair, their work looks very biased in favor of Obama Democrat John Hickenlooper. I support Tancredo and my agenda is obvious.
In today's edition of the Post's "let's beat Tancredo" campaign, the paper warns that if Tancredo wins or nearly wins and Maes gets less than 10% of the vote, which seems very unlikely, under laws enacted by Republicans and Democrats, the GOP will become a minor party and will be able to raise only half of what the major parties are allowed to raise. The paper quotes Dick Wadhams, chairman of the Colorado GOP as correctly pointing out that the next session of the state General Assembly could change the law. This would be easy if Tancredo became governor and Republicans retook the legislature, which looks like a possibility at the moment.
Take it a step further. If the GOP becomes a minor party and the American Constitution Party becomes a major party, would it be hard to merge them into the American Constitution Republican Party? Nope. That would solve the problem. Indeed, Tancredo is the candidate of both the ACP and the GOP because the GOP candidate, Maes, is only a spoiler in the gubernatorial race. He's trying to destroy the GOP because its leaders and sugar daddies aren't supporting him, but he can't and he won't.
Another indication that the Post news staff has joined its editorial board in campaigning for Hickenlooper is that it is withholding its latest poll on the gubernatorial race. That poll shows Tancredo drawing within six points of Hickenlooper, according to information that Tancredo has publicly said he heard, probably from a sympathizer or other editorial staffer at the Post. Where's that survey?
The Post has endorsed Hickenlooper. It says there is a wall between the editorial board and the newsroom reporters and editors. There may be a wall, but it's obviously being breeched in the old fashioned way. The reporters know what their bosses want.
Sorry if this post offends the folks at the Post, but I've got to call it as I see it. As my readers and several Post reporters know, I've been defending the objectivity of the Post on this blog and at GOP meetings, but the paper's coverage of the GOP's non-plight looks pretty biased to me, and I bet it looks biased to most Republican candidates and activists, too. It would help if the Post found a few more "experts" to quote.
