How to volunteer in GOP’s county parties; become county assembly, state delegate
Members of the Denver Metro Young Republicans tonight were invited to get involved in politics during the 2010 campaign season. The chairmen of the seven metro county parties told
Young Republicans at their monthly meeting at Hamburger Mary's in Denver that candidates and the county parties need volunteers.
Clark Boiser, chairman of the Adams County Republicans, asked for volunteers who could spend four to eight hours a week working for a candidate or for the county party.
Erich Feigel, chairman of the Broomfield County Republicans, said all of the county chairmen are very open to receiving phone calls. He said a chairman could help volunteers find candidates to help and could explain how a volunteer can be elected a precinct leader, delegate to their county assembly and a delegate to the State Convention in Broomfield on May 22.
Mark Baisley, the new chairman of the Douglas County Republicans, said his organization is creating a 10-minute training video that precinct leaders can use at their March 16 caucus meetings. He said he's expecting big turnouts at this year's caucuses.
Ryan Call, chairman of the Denver County Republicans said his organization has reorganized and has an office. He stressed that the only way to win elections is to have volunteers and candidates campaigning house to house. He said he's seeing a high caliber of Republican candidates running for the state legislature this year.
David Kerber, chairman of the Arapahoe County Republicans said that the county organization got involved in municipal elections in Aurora and Englewood for the first time. He vowed that the party won't leave a Democratic district uncontested any more. And, he declared, "We have to take the state and country back" from the Democrats who swept to victory in 2008.
Kerber called on the Young Republicans to talk politics to their friends who are Democrats and unaffiliated voters. He advised against arguing politics. "Your personality is what counts," he said. If people like you, they may come to see things your way.
Don Ytterberg, chairman of Jefferson County Republicans made a pitch for the Jefferson County Candidate Roundup for 40 Republican candidates on Sunday, January 31.
George Kowell, vice chairman of the Boulder County Republicans, said his organization is looking for ways to recruit people who turn out for the March 16 caucuses to volunteer and get involved in the August primaries and the November general elections.
It was a terrific event!
Thank you to DMYR and Brett Moore for organizing it
And thank you for covering it Don!
Posted by Ali Hasan on 01/27 at 12:50 AMGood to see you there, Ali. I thought the county chairs came off really well and showed that they want young people to get involved as precinct leaders, delegates and volunteers in the campaigns of their choice.
You showed how young people can become candidates, and you and the various candidates for the legislature showed that the GOP has some smart people running for office.
Posted by Donald Johnson on 01/27 at 05:50 AMGreat event. Always fun. Thank you Don for your write up. I like your ideas about getting active in the blog-world to spread the word about conservative / republican values—and yes, we are nice people.
Posted by Erich Feigel on 01/27 at 07:00 AMThanks, Erich, it was great to meet you. As I said to the group last night, I hope more Republicans will become active on this and other conservative web sites. We need to have a conversation about politics, issues and candidates, and I hope those conversations will take place on this and other conservative blogs. The goal, I think, is to get more Republicans involved in the political process.
