Will big outside funders back Sarah Palin as much as they’ll fund Barack Obama, Mitt Romney?
The easiest way for the Republican establishment to keep Sarah Palin out of the 2012 presidential contest is to let her know that big outside groups will put up nearly a billion to help a Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty or Mitch Daniels beat Barack Obama. But they won't fund Palin because she isn't qualified to be president, and she can't win just with contributions from individuals. Even if she wins the nomination, big contributors won't waste money on a loser, which is what Palin would be in the general election. People forget that in 2008, Obama raised millions from unions and other big contributors before he started bringing in money from individuals. And in 2012, Obama also is encouraging outside groups to put $500 million to $1 billion or more into ads and other campaign efforts designed to get him re-elected.
